Curious on feedback about this property? I appreciate all the feedback on my other thread about upscale places to stay, and I have a couple in mind. I have also been looking at some units at the islander that appear to be quite nice (VRBO) and I like the idea of being on the bike path (I can see us doing this more than once as we enjoy riding wherever we are.)
I walked through the property years ago and thought grounds were nice ... Any thoughts on location, how well kept the property is, etc?
The Islander on the Beach is a relatively well-regarded property on Kauai, especially for those looking for a more relaxed, mid-range stay with great access to the island’s natural beauty. Here's some feedback to help you decide if it might be a good fit for your trip:
Location
The Islander on the Beach is located in Kapaa, which is a great central spot for exploring Kauai. It's close to both the north and south shores, making it convenient for day trips to places like Waimea Canyon, Hanalei Bay, and Poipu. The property is right on the coastline and has direct beach access, although the beach itself is not ideal for swimming due to waves and currents, but it’s still nice for walks and enjoying the views.
Additionally, being located on the bike path is a huge plus for anyone who enjoys cycling. The path runs along the coast and provides scenic views, and it's a very bike-friendly area. You’ll be able to easily bike into nearby towns for meals, shopping, or exploring local attractions.
Property Grounds
The property is well-kept and landscaped with lush tropical gardens, making it feel peaceful and serene. The grounds are relatively small but well-maintained, with a nice pool area and access to the beach. It has a relaxed, quiet vibe, and there’s a mix of vacation rentals and hotel units, with many offering great views of the ocean or the surrounding gardens.
Unit Quality (VRBO Rentals)
The quality of units at Islander on the Beach can vary since many are individually owned and rented out through VRBO or other vacation rental sites. However, most units are updated with modern amenities like fully equipped kitchens, comfortable furniture, and private balconies or patios. It's a good idea to read recent reviews of the specific unit you're considering to get an accurate sense of its condition and the experience you'll have.
General Atmosphere
This property is not as luxurious as some of the higher-end resorts on Kauai, but it offers good value for the price. It’s more casual, which makes it a good choice for couples, small families, or solo travelers who prefer a laid-back, low-key vibe without the high price tag of upscale resorts. The property isn't as large or resort-like as some of the other properties on the island, so if you're looking for something with more amenities (like a spa, large restaurants, or an extensive pool area), you may want to explore other options.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, if you're okay with a more casual, no-frills experience and are looking for an affordable and convenient base for exploring Kauai, Islander on the Beach can be a great choice. Just make sure to check recent reviews of the unit you're booking, as the quality can vary depending on the owner.
