Getty Centre Tickets
We were hoping to go to the Getty Centre during our stay in LA. I didn't realise you needed a timed slot and there are no dates available during the whole of our stay. Does anyone know if there is any other way to obtain a ticket or, is there anywhere that unwanted tickets are posted? Thanks
The Getty Center in Los Angeles has implemented timed-entry tickets to manage visitor flow. If you’re finding no available slots for your intended dates, there are a few approaches to consider, though it’s important to note that the Getty does not officially resell tickets or maintain a public “waitlist” of returned tickets.
Options for obtaining a ticket:
- Check the official Getty Center website frequently. Sometimes cancellations or additional slots are released, especially a few days before the visit.
- Visit early in the morning on the day you want to attend. Occasionally, walk-up tickets are made available at the admissions desk, although this is not guaranteed and may require waiting in line.
- Sign up for the Getty Center newsletter or follow their social media channels. They sometimes announce special openings, events, or ticket releases that are not immediately visible on the booking system.
Alternative strategies:
- If your schedule is flexible, consider shifting your visit to a less busy weekday if possible, as weekends tend to sell out faster.
- Consider visiting the Getty Villa in Malibu instead. While it’s a different collection and location, it is also free and may have more ticket availability.
- Explore secondary ticketing platforms cautiously. Avoid unofficial “scalpers” or resale sites, as tickets are often non-transferable and may be invalid if purchased outside official channels.
Ultimately, persistence and checking multiple times a day on the official site is the most reliable method. Many visitors have successfully obtained tickets this way by grabbing cancellations or last-minute openings.
