I stopped by Dengakuya, a shop recommended by the owner of Kana-ya, a crepe fabric goods store in Ouchi-juku.
This long-established dengaku restaurant is said to have been visited by Kiyoshi Yamashita and Osamu Tezuka.
As soon as you enter the restaurant, you'll see the back of the enclosure directly in front of you, creating a nostalgic tatami room.
I ordered the ¥900 dengaku set from the menu affixed to the beams.
Using a method that hasn't changed in 360 years, they carefully grill each dengaku piece in the back of the enclosure.
Two dengaku pieces, two rice cakes, one herring, and one konnyaku.
The miso smeared on top was simply delicious.
The rice cakes were incredibly delicious.
They were so soft I wondered what they were.
The outside was crispy and the flavor was miso. I was blown away.
This restaurant is truly worthy of the recommendation.
