Gubei Water Town, located in Miyun District near Beijing, is built around the Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir. This is the primary body of water and the main "lake" area in the town. The town itself features many smaller river channels and waterways that are fed by the reservoir. The resort was developed to mimic the style of southern Chinese water towns like Wuzhen, but it incorporates the more rugged northern mountain and Great Wall landscape. The reservoir is an integral part of this aesthetic, providing the water and mountain scenery that defines Gubei Water Town.
