Day in Bologna, Italy – Porticoes, Piazzas and a Walk Through History

#hellohalloween

Bologna was one of those cities that’s best explored on foot — full of colour, arches, and that unmistakable Italian energy. We spent the day wandering through the centre, following the shade of the famous porticoes and taking in the mix of old stone buildings and lively modern life.

Our walk took us past Piazza XX Settembre, the Porta Galliera, and the grand steps of Scalinata del Pincio, which lead up into Parco della Montagnola. The park was a lovely surprise — peaceful, green, and home to the Sculture di Diego Sarti, an impressive monument surrounded by trees and city views.

From there, it was an easy stroll back through Bologna’s busy streets — cafés spilling onto pavements, musicians playing under the arches, and locals zipping past on bikes. It’s a city that feels lived-in and welcoming, with history around every corner.

Even without a set plan, Bologna rewards every wanderer. Just start walking — the city does the rest.
