LuohanTemple isn't just a tourist attraction; it truly feels like a tranquil time travel destination.
The name "LuohanTemple" (羅漢寺) might be unfamiliar to many, but its original name was "ChipingTemple" (治平寺). It's said that it earned its current name "LuohanTemple" (羅漢寺) because it enshrined 500 Arhats (治平寺) from the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Located not far from downtown Chongqing, it's easily accessible. Just a short subway ride and a short walk from the city center, it's the perfect place to experience the rich history and religious atmosphere in a short amount of time.
On the other hand, the stark contrast between the bustle of the city and the tranquility of the temple's interior made me think, "This is truly a place of refuge."
Indeed, if you wander around the grounds, you'll find a space called "Nahandang," home to a whopping 524 Arhat statues. Each with a unique expression and pose, they feel more like "works of art" than just simple Buddhist statues.
There are also numerous photo spots, making it a truly beautiful place to take photos. The photos taken in front of the statues, surrounded by red lanterns, traditional buildings, and incense smoke, captured a unique, traditional atmosphere that's difficult to capture on a regular basis. It's also the place where I took the most Instagram-worthy photos during my trip. 📸
✨I recommend a visit to Nahandang to:
✔️Those who want to experience traditional Chinese Buddhist culture firsthand
✔️Those who want a quiet moment during their trip
✔️Those who want to experience history and religion in downtown Chongqing
✔️Those who are looking for a photogenic spot
✔️Those who want to visit a Buddhist temple for Buddha's Birthday or other special occasions
If you're planning a trip to Chongqing, this is a tranquil gem nestled between the bustling city and the dazzling skyscrapers! I highly recommend you include Nahansa Temple in your itinerary👍🏻
