Girls, I found a lesser-known yet cost-effective city in Guangxi—Fangchenggang.
It’s really fun! But if you don’t plan ahead and take detours, you’ll just waste money, which is a real loss. So make sure to do your research before you go, or you might get stuck in tourist traps. I’ve summarized my experience in Fangchenggang over the past few days, hoping it helps someone.
✅ Transportation Guide
🚄 High-speed train: Nanning East → Fangchenggang North (51.5 RMB/one way, about 1 hour)
✔️ City transportation
🛵 Rent an electric scooter (60-80 RMB/day, highly recommended! Attractions are spread out, so riding gives you freedom)
🚖 Taxi (40-70 RMB one way between attractions, book in advance to avoid no cars)
🏡 Accommodation Recommendations
Bay No.1 / Port Area homestays: 45-80 RMB per person per night
Prefer homestays near the sea for easy early morning sunrises
Tip: Confirm the exact building number of the homestay in advance to avoid getting lost!
🌈 Must-visit Attractions
📍 Bailang Beach: A 6-kilometer-long black sand beach with fine sand. Waves crash onto the shore, creating layers of white foam—super photogenic! You can surf or ride jet skis during the day, and camp on the beach at night to stargaze, creating an amazing atmosphere~
📍 Strange Rock Beach: Nature’s masterpiece with bizarrely shaped reefs paired with a blue boardwalk. Every photo looks like an Instagram-worthy shot. The sunset here is breathtaking, with orange-red clouds casting a romantic glow on the rocks.
📍 Leshan Ancient Fishing Village: A fishing village with over 300 years of history, full of rustic charm. At low tide, the mudflats are vast—try digging for sandworms and raking for snails to experience authentic fisherfolk life. You can even have your fresh seafood cooked on the spot—super fresh!
📍 Dongxing Port: A fascinating experience standing with one foot in two countries! Stand on the China-Vietnam Friendship Bridge and feel the vibes of both nations. Nearby Vietnam Street offers many affordable Vietnamese specialties like coffee, perfume, and snacks.
📍 Wanwei Golden Beach: A 10-kilometer-long golden sandy beach with fine sand and calm waves. Here you can enjoy the sun and sand and experience the unique culture of the Jing ethnic group, like stilt fishing and net fishing—fun and interesting. At night, the seafood stalls offer a variety of fresh seafood to show off!
🥗 Food
🔸 Fangcheng District: Yizhou Barbecue Market (special fruit jam barbecue), Luxing rice rolls, Naliang snack shop (rice rolls, pig’s feet), Old Neighborhood snack shop, Luxiangge, Sister Chen’s marinated dishes, Huiwei porridge
🔸 Port Area: Zhenji seafood noodles, seafood market, night markets (Beigang Old Town, Xiwang Night Market, Starlight Night Market)
⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls when traveling in Fangchenggang:
1️⃣ It’s recommended to stay near Wanwei Golden Beach for sightseeing; the sunset there is beautiful. The UV rays by the sea are strong, so remember to wear sunscreen!
2⃣️ You can negotiate prices for sea amusement activities, don’t be shy.
3⃣️ Don’t bring too many things to the attractions; it’s crowded and carrying a lot is inconvenient.
4⃣️ Don’t listen to local touts who say they can take you to attractions without queues.
5⃣️ Plan your route and do your research in advance to avoid wasting time figuring out where to go and how to get there.
6⃣️ Drivers outside airports and stations can be scary; they might grab your luggage and try to take you away. Don’t get tricked—always take official taxis.
