If you're visiting Fuzhou, I highly recommend staying at Zhuzi Xiangfu Hotel, located in the historic Zhuzi Lane Cultural District in the city center! This hotel was once the residence of Ye Xianggao, a prominent Ming Dynasty official, and is just a wall away from one of Fuzhou's four major gardens, Furong Garden. Surrounded by lush greenery, the rooms are named after Fuzhou poems, creating a rich, traditional atmosphere. Plus, it's super convenient for exploring Sanfang Qixiang!
After touring Sanfang Qixiang, head over to Shangxiahang, which offers a completely different vibe. While Sanfang Qixiang showcases the grandeur of noble residences, Shangxiahang exudes the tranquil charm and bustling spirit of old Fuzhou. Once the city's most prosperous commercial street and shipping hub, it is steeped in history. Strolling through the area, you'll encounter picturesque bridges, flowing water, and a mix of traditional and Western-style architecture.
✅ Shangxiahang Travel Guide:
📍 Must-visit spots:
🎨 Fuzhou Art Museum (located in the Huang Peisong Residence, the building itself is worth admiring)
🏠 Yongde Guild Hall (a traditional building blending Chinese and Western cultures)
🛣️ Zhongping Road (experience the Republic-era "Ten-Mile Foreign Market" vibe)
🌉 San Tong Bridge (feels like you're in a misty Jiangnan scene).
🕙 Opening hours: Open year-round, all day. It's best to visit in the afternoon and stay until evening to enjoy the night view when the lights come on.
🚇 Metro: Take Metro Line 1 to Dadao Station, Exit C, and walk about 7 minutes.
🚖 Taxi: Set your destination to the hotel or Shangxiahang; it's about a 20-minute ride.
🍜 Food: Shangxiahang is also home to many Fuzhou specialty snacks like fish balls and meat swallows. Perfect for a tasty break after exploring.
