🍛 Charming Nyonya Breakfast at Li Er Cafe 莉儿 – A True Local Gem

We kicked off our Penang morning at Li Er Cafe, and it felt like stepping into someone’s home kitchen. Tucked away in a quiet corner, this spot delivers a heartwarming local breakfast that checks all the boxes—flavour, comfort, and authenticity.

We ordered the curry laksa, nasi lemak, roti jala with curry chicken, and maggi goreng—all solid choices. The laksa broth was creamy and spiced just right, the nasi lemak sambal packed a flavorful punch, and the roti jala was silky and perfect for soaking up that aromatic curry. Even the maggi goreng had that lovely wok hei which made it stand out.

The local coffee? Absolutely on point—strong, smooth, and aromatic. What made the experience even better was their promotion: just top up RM2 and you get a drink plus a selection of kuihs. We didn’t go for the kuihs this time since it was a random pick, but the friendly auntie came by to explain each one with so much warmth and passion—it made us want to return just for those traditional bites.

It’s places like these that give Penang its soul. No fancy decor, just honest food and heartfelt hospitality.
