Wat Mahathat, Luang Prabang

Or “Wat Phra Mahathat Ratcha Woramahawihan” is one of the most important ancient temples in Luang Prabang. It is located near the Royal Palace and the Mekong River. It was built in 2103 during the reign of King Saysetthathirat. It has beautiful architecture in a mix of Lan Xang and French styles. The chapel houses a large principal Buddha image and beautiful old murals. The atmosphere inside the temple is peaceful and shady.
