St Paul's Hill

Part of my journey through Melaka brought me up to this St Paul's Hill where the famous St Paul's Church is built upon.

St. Paul’s Hill, or Bukit St. Paul, is one of Melaka’s most historic and scenic landmarks. Once known as Malacca Hill during the Sultanate era, it became a spiritual site when the Portuguese built a chapel here in 1521, later expanded into St. Paul’s Church. The hill offers panoramic views of Melaka City and the Straits of Malacca, making it a favorite spot for visitors.

Today, the church stands in picturesque ruins, with ancient tombstones and a statue of St. Francis Xavier.

Climbing the steps to the summit is a journey through centuries of Melaka’s rich colonial history.
