Kakuozan Nittaiji Temple, located in Chikusa Ward, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, is the only temple in Japan that does not belong to any sect. Surprisingly, the temple enshrines the remains of Buddha, which were gifted from the Kingdom of Thailand during the Meiji period, hence the temple's name, "Nittai." Open to all, regardless of sect, this is a special place where you can truly feel "inner peace."
The temple grounds are spacious, and the magnificent five-story pagoda and main hall exude a majestic atmosphere. During the "Kobo-san Festival" held on the 21st of each month, the approach to the temple is bustling with food stalls and antique markets, creating a scene beloved by locals. A short walk away is Kakuozan Shopping Street, lined with cafes and general stores, making it a recommended spot to stroll around town after visiting the temple.
