Penang Hill Ultimate Guide with Map

Penang Hill itself has no entrance fee. You can take the funicular train or hike up/down the mountain. Some attractions on the hill require tickets.

🚞 Funicular Train
· Hours: 6:30-23:00 (last ticket sale at 21:30). Last uphill train: 21:45. Last downhill train: 23:00

Arrive at the base station, purchase train tickets + get a map (p2) at the ticket counter. Keep your ticket for the return trip.
👍 Features the world's steepest track. Front-row seats offer the best views. The 5-10min ride through green tunnels in colorful cabins creates magical Ghibli-esque photos with sunny light play.

⛰️ At the hilltop station, enjoy panoramic views of the train, George Town, and Penang Bridge. Follow the main path lined with shops and food courts. At the crossroads, climb stairs to visit:
- Fort
- Hindu Temple (vibrant roof mosaics)
- Mosque
- Bel Retiro Villa (white European-style building)
Then return to the crossroads.

🚶 Exploration options:
1. Leisure: Take the shuttle to Monkey Cup Café
2. Hike 3km to Monkey Cup Café, passing:
- Diverse flora
- Scenic viewpoints
- 1837 Victorian-era postbox
- Spectacled langurs (p6's adorable white-eyed monkeys)
- Cool mountain air perfect for hiking
3. For hikers: At the crossroads' right side, enter paid attraction 【The Habitat】 featuring:
- 230m canopy walk
- 360° Curtis Crest viewpoint (best panoramic views)

☕️ Monkey Cup Café (p10)
· Forest café with log seating
· Specialty pour-over coffee + signature desserts:
- Coconut cake
- Tiramisu
- Various drinks/teas/sodas
· Adjacent pitcher plant garden (100+ species):
- Unique cup-shaped carnivorous plants (p12)
- Varieties include:
- Nepenthes bicalcarata
- Nepenthes albomarginata
- Red pitcher plants

Return options:
- Shuttle back to station
- Alternative hiking trail through pristine rainforest (well-marked with clear map directions)
