Onomichi, a seaside town in Hiroshima

The moment you step off the train, you're greeted by the unique aroma of the harbor!

Onomichi is a small town nestled between mountains and the sea. Many restaurants along the waterfront sell Onomichi ramen 🍜. We met the owner, an elderly lady, at a small shop and asked her to recommend a restaurant right by the harbor. Watching the sun shimmer on the water, enjoying ramen and gyoza, and some old-fashioned Japanese ramune (marbled soda) – it was a true delight!

After lunch, we began our journey to Senko-ji Temple! Hidden among the hills of Onomichi are numerous temples! We followed the signs, without a map, just going with the flow! It was wonderful to wander aimlessly – completely stress-free 😍 Every turn revealed a potential surprise! Finally, we walked to the summit and took a cable car down. There were even ice cream shops at the top – a real treat after the climb!

In addition, Onomichi is famous for two other things!

One is the ubiquitous cats 🐱, and the other is Onomichi pudding!

The pudding shop is a small shop less than a five-minute walk to the left after exiting the station. They have many flavors, so it might be different every time you go! Served in glass jars, the flavor is very rich. The fish-shaped syrup has a hint of lemon and isn't overly sweet!

You can also check out the Onomichi shopping district. There are many creative and cultural shops where you can browse and buy some souvenirs!
