Shitennoji Temple (四天王寺) – Osaka’s Oldest Buddhist Temple

#大阪行程

Shitennoji Temple, founded in 593 AD by Prince Shotoku, is Japan’s first officially established Buddhist temple. Though it has been rebuilt over the centuries, the temple retains its historical significance and peaceful atmosphere. The main gate, five-story pagoda, and inner sanctuary create a stunning sight, blending traditional architecture with serene gardens. Unlike other temples, you can actually climb the pagoda, offering a unique perspective. The Gokuraku-jodo Garden, inspired by Buddhist paradise, is a beautiful place to relax. On the 21st of every month, there’s a temple flea market, where you can find antiques, crafts, and local goods. It’s a perfect spot to experience Japan’s spiritual side and escape the busy city life for a while.
