As a traveler curious about Japanese culture, Shitennoji Temple was definitely a highlight of my trip to Osaka. This ancient temple with a history of over a thousand years is not only one of Japan's oldest official temples but also a symbol of Buddhism's introduction to Japan. The moment I stepped through the temple gate, I was struck by the simple and solemn atmosphere. The five-story pagoda stood tall and majestic, and the golden hall shone with Buddha's light; every step felt like walking through the river of history. I strolled along the central axis, from the middle gate to the lecture hall, each building exuding the charm of the Asuka period. The temple's museum is a must-visit, housing many artifacts and historical materials related to Shitennoji, which deepened my understanding of this ancient temple's history. The temple garden offers another kind of scenery—small and exquisite, complementing the ancient temple beautifully. What impressed me most was standing under the five-story pagoda looking up, with the silhouette of Mount Fuji faintly visible. At that moment, I felt as if I could sense the ambition and passion of Prince Shotoku when he built the temple a thousand years ago.
