Standing serenely in the heart of Quanzhou, Kaiyuan Temple is enveloped in incense smoke, bearing witness to a thousand years of history. As you step through the mountain gate, the red walls and gray tiles frame towering ancient trees, and the tranquil sound of Buddhist chants fills the air. When the morning bell rings, it seems to awaken the soul of the city, inspiring a sense of reverence. Within the temple, the twin pagodas on the east and west stand facing each other, adorned with intricate carvings. The stone steps, polished smooth by the passage of time, make it feel as though each step is a journey through history.
Sitting in front of the Mahavira Hall, I watch as devout worshippers press their palms together in prayer, and I can't help but be moved by the solemnity of the scene. A gentle breeze carries the sound of Buddhist hymns, momentarily allowing one to forget the troubles of the mundane world. Kaiyuan Temple is not just a sacred religious site but also a frozen moment in time, reminding us to reserve a peaceful sanctuary for our souls amidst the fast pace of modern life.
