🇯🇵Saitama Omiya Railway Museum: A center for displaying and experiencing railway culture🚂

The Saitama Omiya Railway Museum, located in Omiya City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, is a specialized railway museum operated by the East Japan Railway Culture Foundation, a subsidiary of East Japan Railway Company. It officially opened on October 14, 2007. Formerly a rolling stock dismantling yard at JR East's Omiya Works, it replaced the Transportation Museum in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, in 2006 to become Japan's largest railway museum. Established in 2007, the museum boasts a total area of approximately 42,500 square meters, including 9,500 square meters of exhibition space. Its mission is to preserve railway history and provide educational and interactive experiences. In July 2018, the South Building opened, adding new exhibits and interactive facilities to further enrich the museum's offerings. The museum has attracted over five million visitors and has become a major tourist attraction in Saitama Prefecture.

The museum is divided into several exhibition areas: Rolling Stock, History, Occupation, Science, and Future. A total of approximately 30 authentic rolling stock, including steam locomotives, Shinkansen, and trains, are on display, with some vehicles open to the public for interior viewing. The vehicle area features 36 exhibits, including an interactive driving simulator; the history area displays artifacts from the history of railway development; the career area explains railway work; the science area explains the principles of railway technology; and the future area explores future railway trends. The museum also features a model railway exhibition and a souvenir shop, perfect for families. Winter weather is chilly, so a warm jacket is recommended. There are rest areas and a restaurant within the museum, but some activities may require reservations, so please confirm in advance.

The Saitama Omiya Railway Museum is accessible by public transportation. The museum is located at Tetsudo-Hakubutsukan Station, served by the Saitama New Urban Transit Ina Line (New Shuttle).
