The Great Buddha of Sapporo (Hill of the Buddha)🗿 is a sacred landmark and a prominent viewpoint in Sapporo, Hokkaido.
The highlight here is the large Buddha statue, approximately 13.5 meters tall, rising from a circular tunnel.
From a distance, only the head is visible.
To pay respects, you must walk through a concrete tunnel before you can see the Great Buddha, creating a sense of peace and sacredness.
Another popular photo spot for tourists is the Stone Soldiers Zone, featuring dozens of stone statues of ancient Japanese warriors, also known as "stone guards of the graveyard." The rows are impressive and majestic.
Best seasons to visit:
• Summer (June–August): Lavender blooms adorn the hills, creating a vibrant purple.
• Winter (December–February): Snow blankets the Buddha, creating a tranquil, pristine atmosphere.
• Autumn: The changing colors of the leaves contrast with the concrete. Beautiful in a different way.
Open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Free admission.
Bus services run all the way to the destination.
