Shaxi is a sleepy ancient town that was once a key stop on the Tea Horse Road. It’s filled with stone bridges, traditional Bai-style architecture, and calm mountain surroundings. I stayed in a local courtyard guesthouse and explored cobblestone alleys, quiet temples, and riverside cafés. Unlike Lijiang or Dali, it’s not overly commercial — it still feels authentic and peaceful.
