Just got back from Taishan and put together this super detailed night climbing guide overnight! Tested and proven effective, even my usually non-active bestie successfully saw the sea of clouds sunrise. Quickly save this valuable info!✨
🌙 The key is the night climbing schedule
✅ Check the weather forecast in advance! The sunrise time is super accurate, so rushing to the summit right on time means you won’t miss it
✅ For ordinary people, 5-6 hours is enough to complete the whole climb. We started at 10 PM and got a spot by 4:30 AM
✅ Don’t be like us foolishly starting at 6 PM! Stretching the timeline too long will really make you question life from exhaustion😭
🧳 Smart luggage storage tips
There’s a supermarket at Taishan Station exit that charges 15 RMB per item, but the lockers a bit further ahead are even better! Medium lockers can fit a 20-inch suitcase plus a backpack with no problem, 2 RMB/hour capped at 20 RMB, large lockers only 30 RMB capped. Traveling light saves effort!
🍊 Mountain prices will surprise you
Don’t carry a bunch of snacks! Just bring a bottle of water + energy bars, there are plenty of supply stations along the way:
Grilled sausages/cucumbers 10 RMB for 3 sticks
Fresh-cut fruit 10 RMB for 3 big pieces
Zhongtianmen mineral water only 2 RMB!
⚠️ Pitfall warning: Don’t trust taxi drivers’ recommendations! At Fupai Mountain foot, items sell for 10 RMB, but only 5 RMB on the mountain. Raincoats are 10 RMB at the summit.
🗺️ Rest stops to keep your pace
✅ Zhongtianmen is the halfway milestone! The platform at the entrance is super spacious, remember to buy a 10 RMB golden fridge magnet as a souvenir
✅ Nantianmen hall charges 20 RMB per seat where you can rest until before sunrise. Get your viewing spot before 4 AM!
✅ Free resting tip: On the road from Yuhuangding to Richu Peak, reserve a corner in the restroom hallway early. It blocks the wind and avoids crowds
🚠 Smart combo for descending
The cable car costs 100 RMB and has long lines. It’s better to hike down to Zhongtianmen (about 1 hour), then take a 40 RMB bus which is super comfortable! This way we could even catch some sleep, and our legs didn’t get sore~
💆 Full recharge skills
Massage shops near Hongmen are super worth it at 30 RMB/hour! Southern sisters, beware of the "wash + hall rest" package, the public bath is totally exposed and embarrassing! Train station hotels are dirty and messy, better to take a taxi back to the city
The moment the sea of clouds surges is truly moving to tears. This guide can help you avoid 80% of the pitfalls! Remember to wear non-slip shoes, bring a selfie stick, and the time-lapse shots at the summit are stunning📸
