🏘Wat Intharawihan, or Wat Luang Pho To, is a third-class royal temple believed to have been built before the Rattanakosin period. It was originally called Wat Bang Khun Phrom Nok.
🧱Later, Chao In, the royal consort of King Rama I, a Laotian who lived nearby, undertook a major renovation, leading the locals to call it Wat Intharawihan.
🙏🏽During the reign of King Rama VI, the temple was renamed Wat Intharawihan.
Highlights and important features within the temple include:
🏠The Ubosot (ordination hall) houses the principal Buddha image in the Mara-Vijaya posture, along with several other Buddha images surrounding the base of the altar. Behind the principal Buddha image is a mural depicting the Reclining Buddha, similar to those found at Wat Satue. Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province
🙏🏽Luang Pho To (Phra Phuttha Sri Ariyamettrai), a large standing Buddha image holding an alms bowl, stands 32 meters tall. Construction began with Somdej Phra Buddhacarya (To Brahmaramsi) in 1867 during the reign of King Rama IV. It was completed in 1924 during the reign of King Rama VII. A hair relic from Sri Lanka was enshrined on the top of the Buddha's head in 1980.
