Before Indonesia 🇮🇩 moved its capital to Nusantara on the island of Kalimantan, Jakarta was the capital of Indonesia. Although it is no longer the capital, it remains the economic and cultural center of Indonesia 🇮🇩.
Jakarta is an ancient port city that was already a famous pepper export port in the East by the 14th century. In 1619, Dutch colonizers captured Jakarta on the island of Java, and from then on, the Dutch made it the central base for their colonial rule over Indonesia. During the Dutch colonial period, Jakarta was known as Batavia.
The buildings in the Old Town were mostly constructed during the Dutch 🇳🇱 colonial period, so they differ significantly from the local Southeast Asian style, featuring a very European look, even with a bit of a Caribbean vibe [Cute].
🌟 Highlights: Jakarta’s must-visit tourist spot ✅ The tour lasts about 3 hours or less, and you can choose to dine at Batavia Cafe to experience the most authentic old town atmosphere from the past~
📝 Tips:
It can get crowded, so please stay safe.
There are many people in traditional costumes on the square offering photo opportunities 📸, but you need to pay if you want to take pictures with them [Chin].
