When I was little, the song "I Love Beijing, Tiananmen" forever etched Beijing in my heart. It was a passing joke, and I boarded a northbound train, greeting the first rays of dawn in the east. Beijing, here I come!
My first meal in Beijing: pork and scallion buns from Qingfeng Baozi Shop, black rice and lotus seed congee, and stir-fried shredded potatoes. I was completely stuffed! After a hearty meal, we took the bus to Qianmen. The entire route was under martial law, and we queued for half a day to pass security checks. We could only catch a glimpse of the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, the Great Hall of the People, and the Monument to the People's Heroes from afar. After crossing the Outer Golden Water Bridge, passing Tiananmen, Duanmen, and Wumen, I finally entered the Palace Museum. This magnificent palace, which has withstood more than 600 years of trials and tribulations, suddenly came into view. It was no longer separated from me by a screen; it was within my reach!
Continuing on, Wangfujing Street proved less prestigious than we'd imagined, but we walked through it, concluding our day's wanderlust. From Deshengmen, pass Juyongguan, and head straight to the front of Badaling. Take a small trolley to North 4, then ascend the steps to the highest point of the Great Wall—North 8 Hero Slope! Gazing back at the towering mountains, the clear blue sky, and the sight of hawks circling overhead, you'll feel a surge of pride and awe.
The Ming Dynasty had sixteen emperors, thirteen of whom were buried in Tianshou Mountain, thus forming the Ming Tombs. I'm not sure why the buses that should have gone to Changling only go to Dingling. I knew nothing about the owner of Dingling, so this is a good opportunity to expand my knowledge and learn about the life of Emperor Shenzong. The mausoleum's layout is similar to that of the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum in Nanjing, and only a few replicas are displayed in the underground palace, giving a vague impression of the original scene.
When you're in Beijing, you can't miss Peking duck! Down the alleyway from the Qianmen Porch, you'll find Four Seasons Minfu, where you can feast on roast duck, Beile barbecue, imperial snacks, and noodles with soybean paste—a truly satisfying experience.
After lunch, I took a leisurely stroll and stumbled upon the Grand View Tower, the birthplace of Chinese cinema.
I wandered all the way to the Huguang Guild Hall. The Peking opera performance hadn't ended yet, but I waited for the crosstalk performance to begin. The venue was packed, and there was constant laughter. I could clearly feel myself getting a new laugh!
I slept until I woke naturally, then went to the market for breakfast, then wandered around the gardens! After visiting the Old Summer Palace, we went on to the Summer Palace. But what happened to the supposed off-season? The crowds, the jostling and jostling, just made sense. The Kunming Lake was almost completely packed, and the Long Corridor was also crowded. However, climbing up to the Tower of Buddhist Incense, I finally got a moment of peace and quiet. The view from the horizon, the feeling of taking in the beautiful scenery, was still so beautiful!
After leaving the garden, I replenished some energy and took the We drove through Tsinghua University, Peking University, Beijing Forestry University, China Agricultural University, and arrived at the National Sports Center just in time. The neon lights were flashing, and the torch, Linglong Tower, Bird's Nest, and Water Cube were all in their most splendid state, welcoming visitors from all directions.
The two sessions had just ended, and the air quality had dropped significantly. The sky was also gray, not as clear as the blue sky of the previous two days. The Temple of Heaven was still bustling with people. Grandparents basked in the brilliant sunshine, happily playing cards on the promenade, while we tourists hurried along, busy checking in. The Kitchen of the Gods, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the Imperial Vault of Heaven, the Echo Wall, the Round Mound, the Heart of Heaven Stone—none of them were to be missed! But there were so many people that I didn't even want to take any photos. I just snapped a couple to at least say I'd been there.
The spontaneous trip was very spontaneous, while the quick tour was very fulfilling. Although it was a bit physically demanding, it was a joyful experience!
PS: The capital has many flaws, but after comparing them, I realized how happy life is in Big Blue Whale!
