Tour Route

Beijing Fenghuangling Scenic Area is rich in cultural attractions. Numerous sites, relics, and remains of religious traditions such as Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, as well as ancient Eastern health-preserving cultures, represent a rich cultural heritage. These sites complement the natural landscape and together form over 40 scenic spots along the southern, central, and northern routes of the area.

Northern Route

The northern route is characterized by its precarious boulders and boasts the highest concentration of scenic spots. Phoenix Ridge, located in a corner of Beijing's Western Hills, differs from other peaks in that it is sparsely wooded, dominated by large, weathered boulders and featuring typical coastal landforms. Some of the mountain paths along the northern route are carved through boulders, with the steepest gradient reaching 90 degrees, making the climb incredibly daunting. Some boulders are nearly impossible to turn around, requiring the use of both hands and feet for a thrilling climb. According to the calculation of normal physical strength of an adult, it takes more than 3 hours to reach the top of the mountain. However, there are many stairs, more than 2,000 stone steps, which makes it the most difficult of the three routes. If you like rock climbing or mountaineering enthusiasts, you can choose the northern route.

Middle Route

The middle route is centered on Longquan Temple. The entire route is in the shape of a "0" and is more than 2,000 meters long. It is much smaller than the circle of the southern route. You can climb around the nearby hills for a week. It consumes the least physical energy and takes the least time among the three routes. It is very suitable for the elderly and children. The South Route is relatively flat, focusing primarily on viewing the natural scenery of Phoenix Ridge. The climb is less strenuous. The South Route is also the most lushly wooded of the three routes, with abundant wild hickory nuts teeming in the mountains, and you can even pick them in Walnut Valley. It also boasts the most cultural attractions, with temples like Miaojue Zen Temple and Huangpuyuan forming a triangle of religious and cultural attractions. The South Route is expected to take approximately six hours. Starting from the starting point, you can continue along the South Route directly back to your starting point without backtracking. For those seeking a more relaxed experience while still enjoying a wider range of sights, the South Route is the best choice. While it takes the longest, it offers a wide variety of attractions, requires less energy, and allows you to pick wild hickory nuts, a fun activity.

3. Longquan Temple

Located within the Fenghuangling Scenic Area, at the foot of Fenghuangling in Beijing's Western Hills, Longquan Temple is a Han Buddhist temple built in the early years of the Liao Dynasty. Two majestic cypresses stand before the gate, over 600 years old. Within the temple grounds are two sturdy and upright ginkgo trees and two ancient cypresses, which, as of 2015, were over a thousand years old. The original site of Longquan Temple faced west and east, and a single-hole ancient stone bridge remains well-preserved.

Farmhouse

There are mountains, water, wild fruits, and beautiful scenery along the way. To be honest, going up the mountain is really tiring, but it is very enjoyable and relaxing. After coming down the mountain, we went to a farmhouse to have barbecue and karaoke.
