How to choose the best cable car, slide or cable car at the Badaling Great Wall

When visiting the Badaling Great Wall, most people will encounter a problem: there are pulleys, cable cars, and ground cables on the Great Wall. How do you choose? Which one is more suitable for you?

What is a cable car?

The Badaling North Line Cableway starts at the inner end of the Guntiangou parking lot and goes up to the "Haohanpo" (Good Man's Slope), the eighth tower of the Great Wall. As the first single-line, circular, detachable passenger cableway in New China, the North Line Cableway takes visitors directly to "Haohanpo" in just 8 minutes, reaching the highest peak of the Badaling Great Wall. You can also enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Looking east, you can see the nearby beacon towers of the Ming Great Wall, and looking north, you can see the Hailing Peak, which cuts through the clouds and fog outside Beijing.

The waiting hall is spacious and comfortable, accommodating over 1,000 people at the same time. The upper station tunnel is 199 meters long and can accommodate 500 tourists at the same time. Taking the North Line cable car to the Badaling Great Wall, you can quickly ascend to Haohanpo, the highest peak of the Badaling Great Wall. This route is suitable for those visiting the North Great Wall, but is not recommended for those with acrophobia or chronic hypertension.

What is a cable car?

The Badaling cable car begins at the lower station opposite the Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall and ascends to the South Fourth Tower, the best viewing point at the Badaling Great Wall. The South Fourth Tower is the highest point on the South Peak. The carriages feature panoramic skylights, offering stunning views. With a maximum speed of 8 meters per second, this is the only cable car line in North China, offering visitors a completely new sightseeing experience. I personally believe this is the safest way to ascend the wall, making it suitable for middle-aged and elderly people and those traveling with children. However, the only drawback is that it only travels along the southern side of the Great Wall.

What is a cable car?

The Great Wall's pulley (also called a slide) is a flat cart with a track that slides down by gravity. There is a joystick in the front that can brake and control the speed. People sit on it and it is open.

Business Hours:

Cable car ticket price: Round-trip ticket 140 yuan/person, one-way ticket 100 yuan/person, children under 1.2 meters free

Slide car ticket price: Round-trip ticket 60 yuan/person, one-way ticket 30 yuan/person (age restrictions apply, elderly and children are not allowed to ride)

Tickets for the South Cable Car and the North Cable Car are interchangeable, providing tourists with more sightseeing options.

Appearance differences:

Many tourists often confuse cable cars with ground cables.

A cable car is a general term for equipment that uses steel ropes to transport people or goods. Cable car routes should avoid steep slopes (suitable for middle-aged and elderly people, as they are relatively stable).

A cable car is a detachable, fully enclosed gondola, making it a safe and non-hazardous option. (However, it's not recommended for those with a fear of heights.)

The slide is more popular with young people, and thrill seekers should try it (although operations at the Badaling Great Wall are currently suspended).

Departure to the Badaling Great Wall

If you're looking for the most comfortable way to reach the Great Wall, now there's a shuttle bus that'll give you a break! It's that wonderful time of year again! It's the beginning of spring, the season of rebirth and the perfect time for spring outings and mountain climbing. Even though it's still a bit chilly in Beijing, it won't stop my kids from wanting to climb the Great Wall. I searched a lot online and stumbled upon a direct bus service called "BUSDA." I tried searching, and sure enough, I placed my order—and got ready to go.

Their adult fee is: 120 yuan including tickets and transportation fees, children are 40 yuan

Because there are children and elderly people, and I live far away from the gathering, I chose the second bus at 10 o'clock (there is also a bus at 8 o'clock in the morning, you can choose freely)

Meeting point: Subway Beitucheng Station Exit C

This is a direct bus that truly considers the people. It's so convenient. The tour guide is also very considerate and the bus is very clean. Everyone was immediately happy after getting on the bus.

A real pure play without shopping. A 4-hour tour of the Great Wall without rushing. It's really professional and comfortable. On the way back, they even stopped at the Olympic Center area (I sincerely recommend this to those who have been there. It's convenient, fast and worry-free)

Let's eat

It was almost noon when we arrived at our destination, so we took our elderly and young child to eat. There was a wide variety of food and the prices were acceptable.

Enjoy the beautiful pictures
Travel Summary

I'll skip the Great Wall climbing part because I was traveling with an elderly and a child, and I thought it would be quite strenuous. But thankfully, the tour guide was very helpful. I'm really grateful for the through bus. If you want to go but don't want to go through the hassle, you might want to try this through bus.
