Xishuangbanna Primeval Forest Park preserves 27,025 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of pristine forest, home to over 3,000 peacocks, who daily create a spectacular spectacle of "Peacocks Flying Southeast."
From Jinghong City eastward, via Xuanwei Avenue and Xijing Line, to the Primeval Forest Park Visitor Center (Parking Lots 1 and 2), the journey is 11.4 kilometers, with eight traffic lights and a 30-minute journey.
To watch the release of the peacocks from 10:00 to 10:20 AM, we arrived at the Primeval Forest Park parking lot at 9:30 AM.
The peacock release takes place at Jinhu Lake. From the park's west gate, walk east along the scenic road (past the Manshuanglong White Pagoda) to the peacock release site on the south bank of Jinhu Lake, a 540-meter walk (10 minutes). (The distance from the parking lot to the Jinhu peacock release site is about 800 meters.) Unfortunately, it started to rain lightly after we entered the park. The staff informed us that the peacock release would be canceled due to rain. We had no choice but to drive back to the city and decided to visit Manting Park, the imperial garden of the Dai kings in Xishuangbanna. The distance from the Primitive Forest Park to Manting Park (northeast gate parking lot) is 11 kilometers, a 35-minute drive. Manting Park, also known as "Spring Joy" by the Dai people, is a national 4A-level scenic spot. With a history of over 1,300 years, Manting Park embodies three key themes: Dai royal culture, Buddhist culture, and Dai folk culture. It is a natural village-style park.
It was raining non-stop.
After lunch, we drove to the Tropical Flower Garden.
The Tropical Flower Garden features a herb garden, palm plant area, sparse tree lawn area, fruit tree area, and cash crop area.
The rain stopped just as we entered the park.
We spent the whole morning hoping the rain would stop, as we didn't want to miss the spectacular sight of the peacocks being released.
We immediately left the Tropical Flower Garden and headed for the Primeval Forest Park.
There's a peacock release show every hour in the Primeval Forest Park in the afternoon.

We planned to watch the show from 15:30-15:50.
Every traffic light in downtown Jinghong was jammed. I finally made it to the parking lot at 3:00 PM. Parking lots 1 and 2 were filled with signs: "Full." Ugh!
There was a temporary parking lot nearby. Because it had rained, this dirt lot was flooded in many places.
I circled the lanes twice before finally squeezing in a gap and parking.
The temporary parking lot was an additional 300 meters from the park entrance. It was an uphill climb all the way to Jinhu Lake. I arrived breathless at the lake's edge at 3:25 PM! Kudos to myself.
My morning visit paid off. I'd "scouted" the terrain for the peacock release: there's a peacock release viewing platform northeast of Jinhu Lake. The peacocks fly across the lake from the hillside south of Jinhu Lake to the viewing platform northeast of Jinhu Lake. There's a slope on the north shore of Jinhu Lake that faces Jinhu Lake.
We'll go to this slope to watch.
When the time came, the peacocks were released and a folk song and dance performance began on the flat ground in front of the stand.
Peacocks flew in groups to the flat ground in front of the spectator stand;
At this time, the surroundings were quiet, and tourists were busy taking photos;
On the east bank of the lake, nearly a hundred peacocks lined up in a long line and walked to the spectator stand.
After the performance, the keepers guided the peacocks back to their home. After the show, the keepers guided the peacocks back to their homes. After the show, the keepers guided the peacocks back to their homes.

With a forest coverage rate of over 98%, Xishuangbanna Primeval Forest Park features valley rainforests, flying peacocks, folk songs and dances, delicious food, and a water splashing carnival. It is one of the largest comprehensive eco-tourism attractions in Xishuangbanna.
We came here just to watch the peacock release.
We left the park at 16:30.
