Introducing Sanxian Temple

The Sanxian Temple is located in Kaifeng Yuwangtai Park, east of the Yuwang Hall. Built in 1517, the 12th year of the Zhengde reign of the Ming Dynasty, it commemorates the gathering of three great poets, Li Bai, Du Fu, and Gao Shi, at the platform in 744, where they drank and composed poetry, leaving behind such beloved works as "Liangyuan Yin."

The Sanxian Temple, a jewel of Yuwang Terrace, depicts the gathering of three poets on the ancient Chuitai. In the third year of the Tianbao period of the Tang Dynasty, Li Bai's poem, "Poor Feiyan leaning on her new make-up," offended Yang Guifei and was dismissed from his position as a Hanlin scholar. In Luoyang, he befriended Du Fu, eleven years his junior. The two traveled together and met Gao Shi, a man who felt his talent was underappreciated, in Kaifeng. The three met at Yuwang Terrace, reflecting on the past and present, and penned timeless verses.
