Explore the Zhouqiao Ruins to learn about ancient Kaifeng's history and its significance during the Song Dynasty. Take a stroll around the archaeological site and enjoy the remnants of the old city structures and walls.

The ruins of Zhouqiao, located in the middle section of Zhongshan Road and in front of the Leather Shoes Market, were first built during the Tang Dynasty under the supervision of Li Mian, the governor of Bianzhou. It was known as Bianzhou Bridge in the Tang Dynasty, Bianqiao in the Five Dynasties, and Zhouqiao (also known as Tianhan Bridge) during the Northern Song Dynasty. Zhouqiao remains the most widely used name. According to the "Dongjing Menghualu," the original Zhouqiao was a solid, flat stone structure with intricate carvings.
The "Dongjing Menghualu" records that Zhouqiao " and Xiangguo Temple Bridge were both low and flat, impassable to boats, except for the flat waters of the West River . " During the Northern Song Dynasty, many markets lined the bridge. The story of Yang Zhi's angry killing of the ruffian Niu Er in "Water Margin" takes place here. " The Bright Moon over Zhouqiao " is considered one of the " Eight Scenic Spots of Bianjing ." Zhouqiao was destroyed by floods in the late Ming Dynasty.
