Fort Myers beach has absolutely NO grace to give. They have someone who travels in a golf cart that has professionally labeled Parking Enforcement on the back of it. I asked about leaving my car in a spot on the road over near Time Square that showed a 2 hr max parking. He advised I should pay across the road at a kiosk that you can pay for day, week, month whatever you like. I asked if I could then indeed leave my car where it was and pay there. He said yes and thanks for asking. I paid, placed the paid receipt in my window and went to dinner. When I came back I had a ticket on my car. I called on Monday (ticket issued Sat) and advised the supervisor of Ft Myers Beach parking of the issue. He proclaimed they have no one that would have done that (basically calling me a liar) and that I had to pay the ticket or go to court to fight it ( ticket is $35, court day would cost lost day of work). I am furious because in good faith I asked someone who was dressed and had a vehicle clearly marked as parking enforcement what I should do, was given bad advice, and now not only had to pay the $8 to park for dinner, but also a $35 parking ticket. I asked for grace since I was a good citizen trying to do what was right and the supervisor began to fight with me and raise his voice. I finally hung up on him. BEWARE parking there, they are just looking to ticket people. I know I will no longer waste my money or any of my visitors money by going to dinner in Ft Myers beach since there are so very many amazing places to go in Southwest Florida to spend my money and not be treated as a common criminal!! It is a shame the parking enforcement refuses to believe someone is out there labeled parking enforcement and misleading people into getting tickets. I find it an insult that they consider it the victim's fault. Shame on you City of Ft Myers Beach Parking!!
Fort Myers Beach is known for its bustling tourist areas, particularly around Times Square, and the city enforces parking regulations strictly to manage high demand and turnover. While this helps keep traffic flowing and parking spaces available, it can create frustrating situations for visitors, especially when communication or signage is unclear.
Parking Enforcement Practices
Best Practices to Avoid Issues
Handling Disputes
While the enforcement may feel strict or unyielding, being proactive and fully understanding posted parking rules can help avoid tickets. For visitors, it’s often easier to choose clearly marked pay lots or meters, even if it seems inconvenient, rather than relying on verbal guidance from patrolling staff. This approach helps ensure a stress-free visit and avoids unpleasant surprises like fines.
