Self Limited Player???
I am staying at an MGM property because I was offered 4 free nights, 400 in resort credit and 400 in Freeplay. Called mlife rewards to confirm everything. I fly here and got room. Went to get the free play and was told I was a self excluded person and it won't print me a card. Now not wanting to make a scene Ieft and went to Investigate this more. I did self excluded in IA 4 years ago for a 5 year ban. But I didn't have problems getting mlife cards at Mirage or ParkMGM the last 2 visits this past year... I based my whole trip on this and now I'm just stuck in my room. What changed?
It sounds like your situation involves the casino self-exclusion rules and how they are enforced across states and properties. When you self-exclude in one jurisdiction, like Iowa, that information can sometimes be shared through national or multi-state databases used by major casino operators. MGM Resorts, for example, has a corporate-wide system to track self-excluded players for responsible gaming purposes.
Here’s what likely happened and why you could previously get cards at other MGM properties but not this time:
- Database updates and cross-checking: MGM Resorts periodically updates their self-exclusion database. If your Iowa self-exclusion record has recently been flagged in the MGM system, this could prevent you from receiving a new Mlife card, even if previous visits were not flagged.
- State reporting differences: In some cases, self-exclusion is enforced at a state level, and casinos in other states might not have had access to your self-exclusion record previously. MGM may now be checking national or multi-state records more rigorously.
- Corporate policy changes: Resorts sometimes update responsible gaming policies, requiring stricter enforcement of self-exclusion rules. This could explain why your previous visits were not affected but this visit is being flagged immediately.
Options for next steps and handling the situation:
- Contact MGM Responsible Gaming department: Ask for clarification on why you are being flagged as self-excluded and confirm the source of the record. They can explain whether it’s the Iowa record or something else.
- Verify self-exclusion expiration: If your Iowa self-exclusion was for 5 years and has expired, check whether the system has been updated to reflect the expiration. Sometimes databases are slow to update or require manual review.
- Adjust plans accordingly: If the self-exclusion record is still active, you will likely not be able to use the free play or receive a new Mlife card until it is resolved. This might mean focusing on non-gambling activities or accommodations for the remainder of your trip.
- Document all communications: Keep notes of calls and emails with MGM for your records, in case you need to resolve any discrepancies or appeal for reinstatement of your benefits.
In summary, your inability to get a card now is due to the self-exclusion record being detected, likely because of a database update, stricter enforcement, or cross-jurisdiction reporting. Contacting the MGM Responsible Gaming department is the fastest way to get clarity and determine whether any actions are possible to restore your eligibility.
