Advice on Dodgers tickets
Hi,
I'm travelling from the UK in April with my family. I'd like to catch one of the Dodgers v Cubs games and noticed that the tickets just went on sale.
Do the tickets sell out quickly?
Can I get discounted child tickets? When I look on the official page, there is only the option to select adult tickets. Which are pretty expensive compared to tickets to Angels games I've noticed.
Also while I'm here, just wondered if anyone has tips for the best seats for families. My budget is between $200-$300 in total, maximum.
Thanks in advance!
Great question — seeing the Dodgers play is a really fun experience, but yes, tickets (especially for a Dodgers–Cubs game) can be pricey, and planning ahead is smart. Here’s some advice based on current practices, plus tips for families and how to try to make it work on your budget.
Do Dodgers Tickets Sell Out Quickly?
- The Dodgers are consistently one of the top-drawing MLB teams, so many games do sell out or come close, especially for big matchups like Cubs vs. Dodgers. That said, according to fans on Reddit, “tickets do sell fast … so people often buy ahead, but sometimes the resale market softens a bit closer to game day.”
- Because demand is very high, particularly for weekend games or big rivals, it's risky to wait too long if you're visiting from abroad and want to be sure of getting seats together in a specific area.
Can You Get Discounted Child Tickets?
- According to the Dodgers’ ticket policies, children aged 3 and under are allowed in for free *if* they sit on a parent or guardian’s lap.
- If you want a separate seat for a child aged 3 or younger, you must buy a ticket.
- On resale or some secondary sites, there *is mention* of “child tickets” (for example, BestBaseballSeats notes that for older kids there can be very low-cost tickets in the Top Deck), but these are not always available through the official Dodgers site and depend on what resale inventory is out there.
Best Seats for Families (on a Budget of ~$200–$300 Total)
With your budget, your total works out to maybe $100–$150 per ticket (or possibly less, depending on how many people in your family). Here are some seat-area recommendations where you might find good value + a fun experience:
- Top Deck (Sections 1-13): These are the highest, most budget-friendly seats. According to seating guides, this area often has some of the cheapest tickets (e.g., some sources say $15–35, though with Cubs demand resale may push that higher).
- Lower / Upper Reserve Level: The Reserve level (especially infield) is often good for families — you get a solid view, and the price is more reasonable than premium seats.
- Pavilion / Outfield Pavilion: The right-field pavilion (or left, depending on the game) can be a fun spot — sometimes lively, and a good bet for value.
- Loge Level (middle infield): According to guide sources, Loge seats around sections 120–135 offer a very nice view without premium pricing, and are often good for families.
Other Tips for Buying & Visiting
- Use reputable resale platforms: Since face-value tickets may be hard to get in your budget, look at resale sites (like SeatGeek, StubHub) for good deals, but check the ticket authenticity and fees carefully.
- Consider game timing: Weekday games or non-giveaway games might be cheaper / easier to find in your price range than a highly promoted game.
- Arrive early: Even in budget seats, getting in early helps — you can soak in the atmosphere, buy snacks, and make the most of the experience.
- Know the bag policy & stadium rules: Be aware of what you can bring in, and make sure your family has the right info on entry. (Dodger Stadium has a bag policy for safety.)
Verdict / Recommendation
Yes, Dodgers–Cubs games are in high demand, so tickets can be pricey and may sell quickly — especially good seats. But with a budget of $200–$300 total, you *can* find something decent, especially in the Top Deck or Reserve levels. For a family, those areas provide a good mix of cost and a fun experience. Since you’re travelling from the UK, I’d lean toward buying soon (or at least reserving) rather than waiting for a late bargain, but keep checking resale platforms for good deals.
