birthday lunch/brunch pregame 11/20/23

Celebrating my wife's 60th with a trip to see her Chiefs play the Eagles on her birthday 11/20. We'll be staying at crowne plaza downtown. Looking a a nice restaurant to celebrate her birthday brunch/lunch prior to the game. (noted some places aren't open on Mondays) We're doing BBQ at Jack Stacks the night before.(She appreciates a good salad and healthy meal and isn't a big steak person). Appreciate any recommendations.

That sounds like a wonderful birthday-game day! Since you’ll be in downtown Kansas City (staying at the Crowne Plaza) and want a nice lunch/brunch before the game — with healthy / salad-friendly options (and not heavy steak) — here are several spots that tend to work well for that vibe. I picked these based on their location, menu variety (salads / lighter meals / brunch), and weekday hours (since 11/20/23 is a Monday).

Here are some good brunch/lunch-pre-game spots to consider:

  • — A funky, laid-back breakfast/lunch spot with a broad, creative menu. On Mondays they’re open 8:00 AM–2:00 PM, which makes it perfect for a pre-game lunch.
    • They offer lighter fare, vegetarian options, and a variety of brunch dishes — including omelets, benedicts, etc., which can be easier if you’re not in the mood for heavy BBQ or steak.
  • — A farm-to-table style restaurant with seasonal, fresh ingredients and good vegetarian/ lighter-meal options.
    • They have salads and lighter dishes, which might suit your wife’s preference for healthy fare.
  • — A cozy café-style spot that serves breakfast & lunch on weekdays (Mon–Fri ~7 AM–5 PM at their downtown/arts-district location).
    • They offer sandwiches, salads, soups and lighter breakfast-type meals — likely comfortable before a ballgame so you don’t feel heavy.

Because it’s a Monday, be aware that some “weekend-only” brunch spots may be closed — but the ones above are known to operate on weekdays (or at least Monday). Succotash and Mildred’s seem especially reliable for a Monday lunch, and The Westside Local gives you a bit more “restaurant feel” if you want something just slightly nicer than a café.

Given your wife’s preference for salads / healthy-ish meals (and not heavy steak), my top recommendation would be Succotash or The Westside Local — both offer flexibility and a lighter menu. If you prefer something more casual but dependable, Mildred’s is a safe bet.
