Intercontinental or Raphael for Christmas Light View

We are considering a very short trip Thanksgiving weekend. We would just be in town one night and are considering the Intercontinental and the Raphael for our stay. We are Christmas Crazy and the purpose of our trip being Home Alone at the Symphony! We are interested in the best view. I was leaning towards Premium Plaza View with balcony at the Intercontinental but would like opinions on whether that is the right choice for this trip. Just two adults. One night only. Thank you!

For a short Thanksgiving weekend trip to Kansas City with the goal of enjoying Christmas lights, both the Intercontinental and the Raphael offer appealing options, but your choice will depend on the type of view and overall experience you want.

The Intercontinental’s Premium Plaza View with balcony is particularly popular for those who want a front-row view of the Country Club Plaza’s famous holiday lights. From this room type, you can enjoy a direct view of the Plaza’s decorated streets and fountains without leaving your room, which is ideal if you want to soak in the lights comfortably before or after your "Home Alone at the Symphony" outing.

The Raphael, while a historic and charming hotel with luxury amenities, does not offer the same direct view of the Plaza lights. Its appeal is more in its boutique atmosphere and classic decor rather than its sightlines for Christmas decorations.

  • Intercontinental – Premium Plaza View with Balcony: Best choice if the primary goal is seeing the Plaza lights directly from your room; balcony adds extra experience and photo opportunities.
  • Intercontinental – Standard Plaza View: Slightly less expensive, still offers a good view of the Plaza lights without the balcony.
  • Raphael Hotel: Ideal for luxury and historic ambiance, but you will need to walk to see the Plaza lights; less convenient for viewing from the room.

Additional Tips:

  • Book early, especially for Thanksgiving weekend, as both hotels fill quickly due to Plaza light season and local events.
  • If seeing the lights from your room is the priority, confirm with the hotel that your room indeed faces the Plaza; room locations can vary.
  • Even if staying at the Raphael, you can still enjoy the lights by walking the short distance to the Plaza after the Symphony performance.

In summary, for two adults on a one-night trip focused on Christmas light viewing, the Intercontinental Premium Plaza View with balcony is likely the better choice to maximize convenience and the festive experience.
