Which hotel to choose

We are coming in early May for 2nd visit. Trying to decide on hotel on river to stay. Hyatt or River Street Inn? Both appear to have direct access to riverfront

Both the Hyatt and River Street Inn are great choices for staying on the riverfront in Savannah, and each offers its own unique experience. Since both have direct access to the river, your decision may come down to personal preference regarding the atmosphere, amenities, and overall vibe of each property. Here's a detailed comparison to help you decide which hotel might be a better fit for your second visit:

Hyatt Centric Savannah:

The Hyatt Centric Savannah is a modern and stylish hotel located right on the riverfront, offering beautiful views of the Savannah River. It’s known for its upscale, contemporary feel and its wide range of amenities. It’s a larger hotel compared to River Street Inn, and it tends to have a more vibrant, energetic atmosphere.

  • Pros:
    • Contemporary and stylish decor with a chic, modern atmosphere.
    • Spacious rooms with river views; many rooms have balconies that overlook the water.
    • Convenient location for exploring downtown Savannah, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and historical sites.
    • Full-service amenities, including a rooftop bar, restaurant, and outdoor pool with great views.
    • More amenities, such as a fitness center, which can be convenient if you're looking for more than just a place to sleep.
  • Cons:
    • Being a larger, more modern hotel, it may feel less "charming" compared to the more historic properties in the area.
    • Can be more crowded, especially during peak seasons like May, as it's a popular spot for both tourists and locals.

River Street Inn:

The River Street Inn is a more historic hotel that offers a classic Savannah experience. It’s located in a historic building on the river, which gives it a more traditional and cozy feel compared to the Hyatt. The River Street Inn is perfect if you’re looking for an atmosphere that reflects the charm and history of Savannah while still offering direct access to the riverfront.

  • Pros:
    • Historic charm with a classic Savannah ambiance, complete with original architectural details and a more intimate feel.
    • Great location on the river, with easy access to the riverfront and close proximity to local shops, restaurants, and attractions.
    • Rooms with views of the river, some of which are more quaint and traditional in design.
    • More personalized service, as the hotel is smaller and offers a cozier, boutique-style experience.
  • Cons:
    • Older building, so while it has a lot of charm, it may lack the modern amenities or sleek design that some guests prefer.
    • Rooms can be smaller compared to those at more modern hotels like the Hyatt.
    • Fewer amenities, such as no rooftop bar or large pool, which might be important if you're looking for more resort-style amenities.

Other Considerations:

  • Location: Both hotels are located on the riverfront, which is fantastic for enjoying the scenic views and easy access to Savannah's main attractions. However, the Hyatt Centric is slightly closer to the heart of the historic district, which may be more convenient if you want to be near shops, cafes, and other downtown highlights. River Street Inn is also centrally located, but it’s a bit more tucked away in the historic district.
  • Atmosphere: If you prefer a more vibrant and modern atmosphere, the Hyatt Centric might be the better option. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more quaint, historic, and intimate setting, River Street Inn would be a great choice. It’s ideal for those who appreciate history and a quieter, more traditional feel.
  • Budget: The Hyatt Centric is likely to be a bit more expensive due to its modern amenities and larger scale, whereas River Street Inn can offer a more affordable boutique experience without sacrificing the charm of the historic district.

Conclusion:

Both hotels offer excellent riverfront access and are well-located for enjoying the best of Savannah. If you prefer a modern, vibrant atmosphere with plenty of amenities, the Hyatt Centric Savannah would be a great choice, especially with its contemporary design and full-service offerings. However, if you’re seeking a more historic and intimate experience with the charm of old Savannah, River Street Inn provides a cozy, boutique-style experience with plenty of Southern character.

Ultimately, your choice depends on whether you prefer modern luxury or historic charm. Either way, you’ll be in the perfect spot to explore the beauty and charm of Savannah!
