Wormsloe without a car
I’m hoping to visit Wormsloe on our upcoming visit to Savannah. We won’t have a car since we’ll be in the historic district. Any suggestions on the best way to get to Wormsloe? Also, donee need reservations to tour? Thank you!
Wormsloe Historic Site is a beautiful place to visit and is a bit outside of the historic district in Savannah, but you can still get there without a car. Here are a few transportation options and some info on the tour:
- Using Public Transportation:
- SAV Transit (Bus): You can take a bus from the historic district to Wormsloe. The #6 Bus (Savannah Transit) goes to the area near Wormsloe. You'll need to check the current schedule, as it can vary, but this is a cost-effective option.
- Taxi or Rideshare: Using a taxi, Uber, or Lyft is a quick and convenient way to get to Wormsloe without a car. It’s about a 15-20 minute ride from downtown Savannah, and while it’s more expensive than public transit, it offers flexibility in timing.
- Guided Tours:
- Shuttle Tours: Some guided tours in Savannah offer transportation to and from Wormsloe as part of their packages. These tours typically pick up guests in the historic district and provide a guided experience once you arrive. This can be a good option if you want a more informative visit to Wormsloe.
- Walking Tours: While there are no walking tours that go directly to Wormsloe, some companies offer transportation to the site as part of a larger tour package that includes visits to other nearby historic landmarks.
- Renting a Bike: If you’re feeling adventurous and the weather is nice, you could rent a bike in the historic district and ride out to Wormsloe. It’s about a 5-6 mile ride one way, so it’s doable for those who enjoy cycling and want a more active way to explore the area.
Do You Need Reservations for the Tour?
- Reservations: No, you do not need a reservation to visit Wormsloe Historic Site. The site is open daily and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. You can buy tickets on-site when you arrive.
- Tour Availability: However, if you want to take a guided tour of the property, it’s a good idea to call ahead or check availability online. They offer guided walking tours, which can enhance your experience, but they are limited in number and could be affected by the size of the group.
Additional Tips:
- Hours of Operation: Wormsloe is typically open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, but it’s always a good idea to check the official website or call ahead, as hours can change, especially on holidays or during special events.
- Wear Comfortable Shoes: The paths at Wormsloe can be a bit uneven, and you’ll be walking through historical ruins and nature trails, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes for walking.
- Bring Water and Sunscreen: There is limited shade in some parts of the site, so it’s a good idea to bring water and sunscreen if you’re going to be walking around for an extended period.
Conclusion: While it’s a bit outside of the historic district, getting to Wormsloe without a car is totally doable with public transportation, rideshare options, or even bike rentals. Reservations are not required for general entry, but if you want a guided tour, it’s best to check in advance. Enjoy your visit to one of Savannah's most picturesque historic sites!
