Trying to plan a beach trip for my husband and myself in mid May. Always went to Captiva, I’ve had cancer for the last few years so we’ve missed and are planning this year. Tossed between so places, looking for a beautiful beach, nice restaurants, casual, vibe, places we can dress up if we feel like it or not, just enjoy ourselves. We are on our late 50’s. Thanks ..
Tybee Island is a great choice for a relaxed beach getaway in May. While it does see an uptick in visitors during spring break (typically from late March through early April), by mid-May, the spring break crowds have usually started to thin out, and the island returns to a more laid-back, quieter vibe. So, if you're planning your trip for mid-May, you should be able to enjoy the beautiful beach without the overwhelming crowds associated with spring break.
Tybee Island offers a great combination of natural beauty and charm, with a mix of casual spots and places where you can dress up if you feel like it. The island is known for its relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and you'll find a variety of activities to suit your preferences. Here are a few highlights:
As for crowds, while the island does attract visitors year-round, mid-May is generally considered to be the beginning of the less crowded, more peaceful summer season. Many families will begin arriving later in the month as school lets out, but it will still be relatively calm compared to peak summer months.
In summary, Tybee Island should be a perfect place for you and your husband to relax, enjoy the beach, and have a nice mix of casual dining and opportunities to dress up. The quiet vibe in mid-May will allow you to truly unwind while enjoying the natural beauty of the island. I think you’ll find it to be a wonderful and healing destination after everything you’ve been through. Enjoy your trip!
