Transportation from tybee to Savannah

Hello! We’re doing a bachelorette party in tybee this week. From what I’m hearing getting to the island from Savannah is doable but getting taxi/Uber/Lyft OFF the island is very challenging.

I’m trying to figure out how I’ll get back to the airport. That’s most important.

2nd we have dinner and a tour planned in savanah for a night. 11 of us. Need ride to savanah and back.

Contacted a local taxi/ cab service and the guy was really rude, asked us to venmo him $500 and when we asked for his name/business website he then said he didn’t want to do business with us.

Can anyone help? What options do we have? Has anyone reserved an Uber / Lyft ahead of time and they actually show up?

Transportation between Tybee Island and Savannah can definitely be tricky, especially for groups and especially late at night. You’re absolutely right—getting *to* Tybee is usually fine, but getting a ride *off* the island is where most people run into issues. Drivers often don’t want to make the 25–35 minute trip back empty, so Uber/Lyft reliability is hit-or-miss.

Since you’re coordinating a bachelorette party with airport transfers and group outings, planning ahead is the best strategy. Fortunately, you do have several options that are much more reliable than hoping an Uber accepts your request.

Here are your realistic and safe transportation choices:

  • Pre-book a reputable shuttle or private transportation company – Savannah has several legitimate, professional companies that operate clean vehicles (SUVs, vans, and small buses) and are familiar with Tybee pickups. These services can do airport runs as well as round-trip group transfers. They cost more than rideshares, but they actually show up and are the most stress-free option.
  • Request a large-group vehicle (Sprinter or van) for your night out in Savannah – Since you have 11 people, splitting up into Ubers will be unreliable and time-consuming. A pre-arranged driver for the evening is a much better choice; many companies offer “by-the-hour” service so you have guaranteed transport.
  • Airport-only shuttle booking – If you only need to make sure you personally get to SAV Airport, book a scheduled shuttle or private SUV in advance. Airport transfers are one of the few rides that local companies prioritize.

About Uber/Lyft reservations: You can schedule them, but there is *no guarantee* a driver will accept the ride—especially early morning or late night from Tybee. Many travelers report no-shows or long waits.

To help you choose, here are the types of services that tend to work best:

  • Licensed shuttle companies – Fully insured, professional, reliable for airport pickups and group outings.
  • Transportation companies with multi-passenger vans – Ideal for your group of 11, often used for weddings, bachelorettes, and events.
  • Limo or executive car services – Surprisingly practical for group travel; split among 11 people, cost becomes reasonable.

Tips to make your transportation smoother:

  • Book as early as possible, especially for airport return trips or early-morning flights.
  • Avoid cash/Venmo-only “private drivers.” Reputable companies will invoice, take credit cards, or have an online booking system. The behavior you described—demanding Venmo and refusing to give a name—is a red flag and you were right to walk away.
  • Confirm your pickup 24 hours in advance with whichever service you choose.

For your situation—an airport ride plus an 11-person night out—your best choice is absolutely a pre-arranged transportation company with a van or shuttle. It gives you guaranteed pickup and avoids the stress of relying on rideshares on an island where availability is unpredictable.

Wishing your group a fun and memorable bachelorette weekend on Tybee!
