International to Domestic at Denver airport

Hi I am UK citizen travelling with family to Cody via Denver.

The flight I am looking at is from London to Cody with a 2 hour 5 min stopover in Denver. Both flights are United. As we are all UK citizens we’ll need to go through passport/ customs check at Denver

My question is whether that’s enough time to clear customs etc and recheck into domestic flight? Also any information on where the domestic flights is located once I go through customs would be appreciated.

At Denver International Airport (DIA), arriving on an international flight from London and connecting to a domestic flight to Cody involves a few steps, and a 2 hour 5 minute layover is generally tight but possible if everything goes smoothly.

Customs and Immigration:

  • As UK citizens, you will need to go through U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at DIA. This includes passport control and collecting any checked baggage to go through customs inspection.
  • Processing time can vary widely depending on the number of international arrivals at the same time, but early mornings and off-peak times are usually faster.

Rechecking Bags and Security:

  • After clearing customs, you will need to recheck your bags for the domestic flight. United typically has a dedicated international-to-domestic transfer area where agents can assist with this, but it can take 15–30 minutes.
  • After rechecking luggage, you must pass through TSA security screening again before proceeding to your domestic gate.

Domestic Flight Terminals:

  • DIA’s Jeppesen Terminal handles both international and domestic flights. After customs, domestic gates are in the main concourses (A, B, or C), depending on your United flight. Signage and airport staff can direct you efficiently.
  • United flights to Cody usually depart from Concourse B, but confirm on your boarding pass.

Tips to Make the Connection:

  • Check in online and have boarding passes for both flights ready to save time.
  • Consider notifying flight attendants on your London flight that you have a short connection; sometimes they can assist or advise on expedited processing.
  • Keep moving and follow the signage for “Connecting Flights” or “Domestic Transfers” immediately after customs.
  • If there are any delays or long lines, United agents may help expedite connections, but a 2 hour layover leaves little margin for unexpected delays.

In summary, while 2 hours and 5 minutes is technically enough for an international-to-domestic transfer at DIA, it’s tight. Be prepared for quick movement, minimal delays, and have all travel documents ready. If possible, a longer layover would reduce stress, especially with a family group.
