Public trans. from airport to hotel?

We (2 adults) are flying in on a Tuesday afternoon and trying to decide if we should take public transportation or Uber from the airport to the Double Tree by Tufts. Is public transportation easy enough to navigate with this being our first Boston trip? Or just take the easy route with an Uber?

Getting from Boston Logan Airport to the DoubleTree by Tufts can be done either by public transportation or by Uber/ride-share. Both options are viable, but the choice depends on convenience, cost, and your comfort level with navigating Boston for the first time.

Here’s a breakdown of your options:

  • Public Transportation (MBTA): Boston’s subway and bus system, known as the “T,” can get you from Logan Airport to your hotel. The airport is served by the Silver Line (SL1) bus, which is free from the airport terminals and connects to South Station. From there, you can transfer to the Red Line subway or a bus heading toward Medford/Somerville near Tufts University. Depending on your exact hotel location, you might need to take an additional bus or a short walk.
  • Pros of Public Transportation: It’s inexpensive (around $2.50 per ride for adults), reliable, and avoids traffic.
  • Cons of Public Transportation: It can be confusing for first-time visitors, especially with luggage and transfers. Travel time could be 45–60 minutes or longer depending on connections and waiting times.
  • Uber/Taxi/Ride-share: A direct ride from Logan to the DoubleTree by Tufts is much simpler and more convenient, especially with luggage. The ride typically takes 20–35 minutes depending on traffic.
  • Pros of Uber: Door-to-door service, minimal walking, and faster travel time. Great if you want a stress-free arrival.
  • Cons of Uber: More expensive, usually around $35–$50 depending on traffic and surge pricing.

Additional tips:

  • If you’re comfortable following maps and handling luggage, the Silver Line + MBTA bus/subway route can be a fun way to get a feel for Boston public transit.
  • If you’re tired from your flight, have lots of luggage, or want to start your trip without hassle, an Uber or taxi is likely the best choice.
  • Check real-time MBTA schedules and traffic conditions before making your decision, as Boston traffic can vary in the afternoons.

Overall, for first-time visitors with luggage, many travelers prefer the ease and comfort of Uber, but public transportation is entirely feasible if you’re comfortable navigating transfers.
