Furong & Fenghuang town day trip possible?

I will be traveling in October spending 4 nights in ZJJ, I have a day free and planning to visit both Furong & Fenghuang ancient town. Is it possible to cover the 2 towns in a day trip by high speed train on my own? Thanks!

Visiting both Furong Ancient Town and Fenghuang Ancient Town in a single day from Zhangjiajie is technically possible, but it will be extremely rushed and may not allow you to enjoy either town fully. Both towns are located some distance from Zhangjiajie and each other, so transportation time is significant.

  • Furong Ancient Town: About 90–100 km from Zhangjiajie city, roughly a 2-hour drive. There is no direct high-speed train to Furong; the nearest stations require additional taxi or bus connections. It’s a small town, so 1–2 hours is sufficient to explore if pressed for time.
  • Fenghuang Ancient Town: About 230 km from Zhangjiajie city, roughly 3–4 hours by car or 4–5 hours by bus/train connections. High-speed train options exist, but the stations are not within walking distance of the town, requiring transfers by taxi or local bus.

Given the travel distances and time involved, a realistic day trip covering both towns is not practical using public transportation or high-speed trains. Attempting both would leave very little time to enjoy the towns themselves.
