4 days on either Lake Michigan or Lake Huron

We are attending a weekend game in the Big House but have five nights (4 days) midweek and want to spend them where we have a good hotel/motel selection, interesting sites to visit, and access to a swimmable beach. Suggestions? We are already familiar with the Detroit area and burbs and not looking to spend time there. TIA
