Ideas after visiting DC

Question

We are travelling to the US from NZ for 5-6 weeks-visiting Colarado with a car for 10 days-up to Chicago for 3 days and New York for 1 week and DC for 4 days. Has anyone any ideas where to travel next for 2 weeks as we make our way back to LA and back to New Zealand? One idea was to go down to Charleston and Savannah but I am not so sure. If anyone has some suggestions would be gratefully received.
