Two days in Boston

Hi All,

We will be in Boston for two nights, arriving on the 18th and staying at the Westin Copley Place. On the 19th husband and son going to a basketball game. We have never been to Boston before.

Can you please recommend a restaurant nearby. We like all but should suit our teenager with big appetite.

Could you please give your top things to see on the 18th afternoon and 19th before they set off for the game. My plan is to do some shopping when on my own.

Trying to make the most of our short stint.

Help is much appreciated.

Boston is a fantastic city with so much to offer, even in a short time! Given your short stay, here’s how to make the most of it:

Restaurant Recommendations (near Westin Copley Place):

  • Atlantic Fish Co.: A popular seafood spot, just a short walk from the Westin. Great for fresh seafood and a nice atmosphere, which will appeal to both adults and teenagers.
  • Yvonne's: If you're in the mood for something upscale and unique, Yvonne's is a stylish and delicious option for modern American cuisine. The portions are generous, and they offer a wide variety of dishes.
  • Cheesecake Factory (at the Prudential Center): This is a safe bet for a teenager with a big appetite. It’s a chain, but they offer a massive menu with hearty portions and classic American comfort food. It’s also nearby for convenience.
  • Burke's Seafood: For a more casual experience with great seafood, Burke’s offers great lobster rolls and fried clam baskets in a laid-back setting.

Top Things to See on the 18th (Afternoon) and 19th (Morning):

  • Freedom Trail: Start your visit with a stroll down the Freedom Trail. It’s a 2.5-mile walk that takes you past 16 of Boston’s most iconic historic sites. Even if you don’t walk the whole trail, visiting a few key spots, like the Massachusetts State House, Old North Church, and Paul Revere’s House, will give you a great introduction to the city.
  • Boston Common and Public Garden: These parks are located near your hotel and offer a peaceful place to walk or relax. The Public Garden is especially beautiful with its swan boats on the lagoon.
  • Newbury Street Shopping: If you enjoy shopping, Newbury Street is one of the best places to go. It’s a short walk from your hotel and offers a mix of boutiques, cafes, and high-end stores. Perfect for your solo shopping trip.
  • Fenway Park: Since your husband and son are going to a basketball game, they might also want to check out Fenway Park, which is a historic baseball stadium (even if it’s off-season for baseball, it’s worth a visit for sports fans). It’s also close to the Westin, so easy to pop by!
  • Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum: If you’re interested in a fun, interactive experience, visit the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. It’s an engaging way to learn about American history with live reenactments and a chance to throw tea into the harbor!
  • North End & Old North Church: If time allows, head to the North End for a taste of Boston’s Italian heritage. It’s a charming neighborhood with great food, and you can stop by the Old North Church for a quick peek at this historical site.

On the 19th (Morning before the game):

  • Harvard University: If you have time before the game and enjoy a quick trip, head to Cambridge to visit Harvard University. It’s just a short subway ride from downtown Boston. Walk around Harvard Yard, explore the campus, and maybe grab a coffee at one of the cafes.
  • Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: For a more relaxed activity, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is an incredible spot. It's a bit quieter than other major museums, with a beautiful courtyard and amazing art collection. It's located near Fenway and is a short ride from your hotel.
  • Explore Seaport District: If you want to enjoy some modern architecture and waterfront views, the Seaport District is a great place to explore. It’s filled with trendy restaurants, bars, and galleries, plus it offers a nice view of Boston Harbor.

Solo Shopping Options:

  • Prudential Center and Copley Place Mall: Both of these malls are within walking distance from the Westin. You'll find a mix of high-end shops, department stores, and casual clothing stores. It’s the easiest option for a quick shopping spree.
  • Quincy Market: For a unique shopping experience, Quincy Market offers lots of local shops, food vendors, and souvenirs. It’s located near Faneuil Hall and is a must-see spot in Boston.

With just two days in Boston, these suggestions should help you balance sightseeing and enjoying some time on your own. You’re staying in a fantastic area, so everything is conveniently close! Enjoy your trip!
