Smokin Tuna

Does anyone know if the smokin tuna will be opening anytime soon?? We will be coming down for Mile 0 fest and we want to hear country music.. and this was our go to place last year we saw kin faux and they were awesome!! If not where can we go to hear country music where you won’t be cramped up with a lot of people and be able to sit and have drinks.

Good question. Unfortunately, Smokin’ Tuna Saloon in Key West is *not currently open* in its original location. According to several sources, the Charles Street spot has closed.

Here’s what the latest seems to be (as of mid-2025):

  • There are reports they’re relocating to a nearby building (around Caroline Street, next to the old Tuna spot) rather than reopening exactly where they were.
  • According to user reports, the delay is real — work is ongoing and there have been city code complications.
  • Key West Bar Card lists the Saloon with a note “Smokin Tuna is Opening Soon!” but does *not* provide an exact reopening date.
  • Local guides also note the closure: “Smokin’ Tuna Saloon shut down in 2024 … has changed location and is undergoing renovations.”

So, in short — there *is* hope they’ll be back, but there’s no confirmed reopening date yet.

Since you’re heading to Key West for Mile 0 Fest and want to hear country music without being packed into a huge crowd, here are some good alternative venues to check out:

  • Hank’s Pub: Known for live music, and during festival times it’s a great spot for laid-back sets.
  • General Horseplay: Another relaxed bar with frequent live acts and a friendly, local vibe.
  • Green Parrot Bar: A Key West institution — more space, great musicians, and it’s less tourist-crammed than some Duval spots.

One more tip: download the So Key West app — it shows daily live music schedules around the island so you can find who’s playing, where, and when.

Bottom line — Smokin’ Tuna isn’t open yet, but people are optimistic, and there are solid alternative spots for good country-style or live music that won’t feel overly crowded.
