Maui Wedding - September 2026
We are wanting a very simple beach wedding with around 20 guests. Cost is a factor particularly with the high cost of food and accommodation on Maui. Ideally we would like to stay (with our guests also) at a condo block on the beach, have the ceremony there, and then cook our own steak, salmon etc on a communal BBQ at the resort itself. We would use a wedding planner for the actual ceremony.
Can anyone recommend a condo resort which is reasonably priced, which would also allow us to host a very low key reception after the ceremony. Ideally not in or around Kihei but we are open to all suggestions.
For a low-key, budget-friendly beach wedding on Maui with around 20 guests, there are several condo resorts that could be great options for both the ceremony and the reception. Many of these resorts offer beachfront locations with communal BBQs, which would allow you to prepare your own meal and host a relaxed reception afterward. Here are some suggestions that might fit your needs:
- Kaanapali Shores - Located in the popular Kaanapali area, Kaanapali Shores offers spacious condos with full kitchens, and it’s right on the beach. While the resort itself has a more laid-back vibe, it does have BBQ facilities for guests and enough space for small gatherings. It’s a great option for those looking for a more relaxed, less commercialized venue. The area also has plenty of nearby shops and restaurants for easy access to additional supplies if needed.
- Napili Shores Maui - This charming beachfront property in Napili Bay offers affordable condos with kitchenettes, and it's one of the more budget-friendly options in the area. The resort has communal BBQ grills and a lovely lawn area where you could host a reception. Napili Bay is also known for its peaceful, quieter atmosphere, which is perfect for an intimate wedding.
- Wailea Ekahi Village - While Wailea can be a more upscale area, Wailea Ekahi Village provides a good balance of affordability and luxury. The complex is situated directly on Keawakapu Beach, with beachfront condos that feature full kitchens. There are several BBQ areas throughout the property, and the location offers great sunset views for a ceremony. Though not as affordable as some other options, it provides a beautiful setting for a small, intimate wedding.
- Royal Kahana Maui by Outrigger - Located on the beach in Lahaina, Royal Kahana is another option for an affordable beachfront condo resort. The resort has BBQ grills, poolside amenities, and spacious condos. Lahaina is a great location as it offers a bit more of a historic vibe and is not as busy as Kihei or Wailea, making it ideal for a more relaxed and private experience.
- Mana Kai Maui - This small but beautiful beachfront condo complex is located in Kihei, but it’s on the southern end near Wailea, which tends to be quieter and less commercialized. Mana Kai offers BBQ facilities, beach access, and large condos with kitchens. While the area around Kihei can get crowded, this resort offers more privacy and intimacy.
For the actual ceremony, you can hire a local wedding planner who can help coordinate everything, including the setup for your wedding, obtaining the proper permits (if necessary), and ensuring the event runs smoothly. Most resorts in Maui will also have local coordinators who are familiar with the logistics and the best spots for small beach weddings.
When considering accommodation for your guests, you may want to look for larger condos or units with enough space to accommodate a group, so everyone can stay nearby. Many condo resorts will offer group discounts or have packages designed for small weddings, so it’s worth inquiring about that when booking.
Lastly, it’s always a good idea to check with the resort directly about any specific policies regarding hosting a reception on the property. Some resorts may have rules about using BBQs for large gatherings, so you’ll want to confirm that in advance to avoid any surprises.
