Overwhelmed by internet choices!

Hi!

Looking to stay for a week in DC, April 12-19th.

5 of us, my 82 year old dad, myself, brother, wife and 16 year old nephew.

I want to stay close to the National Mall. Flying into Regan and will use metro to get to hotel.

Am looking at the Embassy Suites/Washington DC convention. I like the sofa bed (for the kid) and places in the rooms to rest weary feet. Also like the free breakfast. The room rates are a little bit above what we'd like to pay, but also know this is a one time trip, have to go that week, and will pay them if that's the best we can do. Seeing about $370 per night for a king bed room, and a little more for the two queen room, $430. Both have sleeper sofas so options for the kid.

I've been to DC four times and have stayed close and also far. I want to stay close for this bucket list trip with dad. Any other hotels to check out with similar accommodations? Better metro access? Am I missing anything??

Thank you so much!!

For a week-long DC trip with your dad, nephew, and the rest of the family, staying near the National Mall is definitely ideal for convenience and minimizing long walks or extra transportation time. Embassy Suites Washington DC – Convention Center is a solid choice, particularly for families. The rooms with sofa beds are very practical, and the free breakfast is a big plus when traveling with multiple generations. It’s also within walking distance or a short Metro ride to the Mall, museums, and monuments.

Other hotel options that might meet your needs include:

  • Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Downtown: Comfortable rooms, some with sofa beds, and good Metro access. Slightly more modern but still family-friendly.
  • Hyatt Place Washington DC/National Mall: Spacious rooms with sofa beds, free breakfast, and a convenient location near L’Enfant Plaza Metro, providing easy access to the National Mall and museums.
  • Marriott Marquis Washington DC: Larger property, more expensive, but offers family-sized rooms and excellent central location near Metro and the Convention Center.
  • Holiday Inn Washington Capitol – National Mall: Very close to the Mall, decent room sizes, and accessible via Metro. A practical choice for seniors due to shorter walking distances.

Some additional tips:

  • Check if the hotel has elevators and accessible rooms for your dad, as walking long distances or navigating stairs can be tiring.
  • Staying near L’Enfant Plaza or Metro Center gives you quick access to multiple lines, making it easier to explore neighborhoods outside the Mall without driving.
  • Given your budget and priority for comfort and convenience for your dad, spending slightly more per night is reasonable for this once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Overall, Embassy Suites is a very suitable choice for your group. If you want to compare, Hyatt Place or Hilton Garden Inn near L’Enfant Plaza offer similar family-friendly features with slightly better Metro access. All of these options will keep you close to the National Mall and minimize walking for your dad while providing comfortable accommodations for your nephew.
