Big Bear to do

Hi! We will be in the area the first week of February. We will ski 2 days, but are looking for something to do on our non-ski days. My daughter is 10 & I am pregnant, so that limits me on things I can do. Any suggestions?

Hi! Visiting Big Bear in early February is perfect for winter activities, even on non-ski days. Since you’ll be pregnant, you’ll want low-impact and safe activities, and your 10-year-old will enjoy family-friendly fun.

Things to do on non-ski days:

  • Big Bear Lake Village: A charming area with shops, cafes, and restaurants. You can enjoy a stroll along the village streets, grab hot chocolate or lunch, and take in the snowy scenery without much physical exertion.
  • Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain: Offers a winter tubing hill and a small alpine slide track. Tubing is safe for most pregnant visitors if you sit out or supervise from the sidelines while your daughter plays.
  • Snow play areas: There are designated snow play spots for sledding and snowball fun. You can participate lightly or watch while your daughter enjoys the snow. Snow Summit and Bear Mountain often have tubing and play zones.
  • Big Bear Alpine Zoo: A small but lovely wildlife rehabilitation facility featuring native animals. It’s easy to navigate, educational, and enjoyable for children.
  • Scenic drive around Big Bear Lake: You can enjoy the snowy landscape and lake views from the warmth of your car. Stop at scenic viewpoints for photos and short, easy walks if you feel up to it.
  • Ice skating: Big Bear has seasonal outdoor ice rinks that are fun to watch or join if comfortable. Skating can be skipped if you need to sit out, while your daughter skates safely.

Relaxing options:

  • Enjoy your cabin or lodge amenities, such as a fireplace, hot tub (if safe for pregnancy — check with your doctor), or board games with your daughter.
  • Local cafes and bakeries in Big Bear Lake Village offer a cozy retreat from the cold.
  • Take a short winter nature walk on gentle trails around the lake. The Alpine Pedal Path is flat and scenic.

With this mix, you can have fun snowy adventures, while also taking it easy and staying safe during your pregnancy. Your daughter will have plenty of activities to enjoy on her non-ski days, and you can still experience the beauty of Big Bear in winter.
