Seabourn Alaska Excursions (Ventures by Seabourn)

We're looking at a 7 or 14 day Alaska cruise on Seabourn Quest in August. Their Ventures by Seabourn excursions cost extra and are space limited. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with Seabourn's Alaska excursions. How likely is it that the Ventures excursions will fill up? I'd hate to be our first and only Alaska cruise and not get a chance to kayak and Zodiac.

Seabourn’s Ventures by Seabourn excursions are a highlight for many guests on Alaska cruises, offering small-group, active experiences like kayaking, Zodiac cruises, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Because these excursions are limited in capacity, they can fill up quickly, especially during peak travel months like August when the ship is likely near full occupancy.

Based on experiences shared by other travelers, the likelihood of Ventures excursions filling up is high, particularly for activities such as kayaking, Zodiac tours, or glacier landings. These excursions are designed for small groups to provide a more intimate experience and closer interaction with the environment, which naturally limits the number of participants.

Here are some key points and tips to consider:

  • Book Ventures excursions as early as possible, ideally at the time of cruise booking or as soon as the excursions open for reservations, which is usually a few months before departure.
  • Check the Seabourn website or contact the cruise line directly to understand which excursions are most in demand and how many spots are available.
  • Consider flexibility in your itinerary—sometimes booking a different excursion on the same day or at a different port can increase your chances of participating in the activities you most want.
  • For kayaking or Zodiac trips, be aware of any physical requirements or limitations, and ensure you and your fellow travelers are comfortable with the level of activity.

Additional tips to maximize your chances:

  • If possible, pre-book multiple Ventures excursions in advance, prioritizing the ones you don’t want to miss, and adjust other excursions if needed.
  • Keep an eye on cancellations. Sometimes guests change plans, and spots may open up closer to the cruise date.
  • Engage with the onboard concierge early—Seabourn staff can provide guidance and assist with securing excursions if availability changes.

In summary, Ventures excursions on Seabourn Alaska cruises are popular and limited, so early booking is essential if kayaking or Zodiac experiences are a priority for your first Alaska cruise. Being proactive, flexible, and in communication with the cruise line will give you the best chance to enjoy these unique activities.
