Turner Beach/ access to Blind Pass

I will be coming to Sanibel the week of 1/18-1/25. We were there a couple of months ago and Turner Beach (I believe that is the one at Blind Pass) was closed due to the sand pushed into the parking lot by Hurricane Milton. I think I read that this lot will be open soon. Does anyone have more information?

If the beach lot does not open, does anyone know how to access Blind Pass? I really enjoy fishing there. I do not mind walking!

Thanks in advance!

Turner Beach, located near Blind Pass on Sanibel Island, experienced significant sand displacement and parking lot damage from Hurricane Milton. As of mid-January, local updates indicate that while some sand removal and repair work has been completed, the lot may still be partially restricted. Access conditions can change quickly depending on ongoing maintenance, so it’s advisable to check the City of Sanibel or Sanibel Island official beach access pages for real-time updates just before your visit.

If the Turner Beach lot remains closed, there are still ways to reach Blind Pass for fishing:

  • Walk from nearby accessible parking areas: You can park at nearby public lots such as Bowman's Beach or other Sanibel Island beach accesses and walk along the shoreline to reach Blind Pass. Depending on tide and sand conditions, this can be a 10–20 minute walk from the closest open lot.
  • Use the Causeway or Lighthouse Beach parking: These areas are a bit farther but allow for a scenic walk or bike ride along the beach paths to reach the fishing spots at Blind Pass.
  • Biking option: Sanibel is very bike-friendly. Renting a bike from one of the local shops can allow access to Blind Pass without relying on the Turner Beach parking lot.

Additional tips for fishing at Blind Pass:

  • The pass is known for snook, redfish, trout, and tarpon, depending on the season. Early morning or late afternoon tend to be the best times.
  • Check local tide charts; fishing is often best on an incoming or outgoing tide.
  • Carry light gear if walking a distance, and bring water, sunscreen, and a small cooler if you plan to stay several hours.

In summary, while the Turner Beach parking lot may have limited availability, accessing Blind Pass is still very feasible by walking or biking from nearby public beach accesses. Keeping an eye on official Sanibel updates before your trip is the best way to ensure you can enjoy your fishing plans.
